Rented bikes and rode through Philosopher's Path. The Philosopher's Path is a beautiful stone path that follows a canal that is lined by hundreds of cherry trees. The path gets its name due to Nishida Kitaro, one of Japan's most famous philosophers,
Stopped by a cute cafe and had some green tea and uiro at Philosopher's Path. Uiro is a traditional Japanese steamed cake made of rice flour and sugar, similar to mochi. Delicious and beautiful!

When we arrived in Kyoto the streets were blocked off for a beautiful parade. Jidai Matsuri festival means “Festival of the Ages”, it involves a parade of people dressed in outfits from all the major Japanese historical periods. It was first held in 1895, as a response to the relocation of the capital from Kyoto to Tokyo (the Kyoto government feared a loss of prestige and tourism)

Considered in Shinto to be messengers of the gods, Nara's nearly 1200 deer have become a symbol of the city and have even been designated as a natural treasure. Nara's deer are surprisingly tame, although they can be aggressive if they think you will feed them. My husband got chased several times. Deer crackers are for sale around the park, and some deer have learned to bow to visitors to ask to be fed.
